Karoo Animal Protection Society KAPS

Barrydale, South Africa

At Klipfontein Farm, Barrydale The Karoo Animal Protection Society (KAPS) is the sole organization offering a mobile service for animals in underserved regions of the Little Karoo in rural South Africa. In these impoverished communities, both animals and their owners face the hardships of poverty. Many individuals struggle to provide for their children, and their dogs are often confined and fed scraps. KAPS provides essential welfare services at no cost, reaching out to a significant catchment area spanning nearly 5,000 square kilometers. Moreover, they conduct Outreach Programs in distant areas of the Eastern Cape, covering vast distances from their home base in Barrydale. KAPS assists and educates thousands of owners, addressing emergencies every day of the year. Their volunteer-based operations encompass activities such as dipping, deworming, feeding, providing treatment, sterilizing, rescuing, and finding new homes for animals. Remarkably, KAPS operates without an office space and does not employ full-time staff. However, their dedication and exceptional success rate have transformed the lives of animals and their owners within the communities they serve.
