The Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO) is a legally registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 003-967-NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 130001093) founded in 1986 with the aim of alleviating the suffering of animals residing in underprivileged communities throughout the Cape Metropole. Unlike a typical pet shelter, ARO operates as a welfare veterinary hospital focused on essential activities such as sterilization and primary healthcare. ARO’s outreach efforts involve operating Mobile Clinics staffed by qualified and experienced Animal Welfare Assistants (AWAs). These clinics serve extremely impoverished communities and informal settlements, including but not limited to areas like Guguletu, Nyanga, Delft, Browns Farm, and other regions within the broader Cape Metropole. Moreover, ARO manages a fully equipped welfare hospital in Ottery, catering to individuals whose monthly household income is less than R20,000 gross. This facility provides crucial welfare services to those in need.
