With the scorching South African summer, there isn’t much that can satisfy those taste buds like a frozen popsicle, so we’ve created a few delicious pet pawsicle recipes! Popsicles are a fun and easy way to cool down our pets and keep them mentally stimulated! The popsicles not only help with the heat but also provide a mentally engaging experience that’s fun and flavorful! All you need are a few ingredients, some pets, and some popsicle moulds. You can find cute ones at the China stores or even make a lick mat of frozen goodness using a cupcake tray! Let’s get into it:
Pawsicle Recipes For the Pups
Blueberry Bliss Pawsicle
- 1 Cup Blueberries
- 1 Cup Strawberries
- ½ Cup Plain Yoghurt (no added sugars)
- 1 Tablespoon Honey
Blend it all until smooth, pour it into your moulds, and serve once frozen!
Blueberries are delicious low-calorie treats filled with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins C & K – they help support their immune system and overall health! Similar to Blueberries, Strawberries contain all the goodness of Blueberries with the added benefit of Omega 3, which helps with skin and coat health! Plain yoghurt is high in proteins and calcium and acts as a probiotic for our pups! Honey is anti-fungal, works as a natural antihistamine, and is antibacterial, aiding in gut health!
Carrot & Chicken Crunchers
- 1 Cup Cooked Chicken (Shredded)
- ½ Cup Grated Carrots
- 1 Cup Bone Broth
Combine all ingredients, pour into molds, and serve once frozen!
Bone broth has many great benefits that help with their digestive issues and gut health, alleviate sore joints, and maintain a healthy immune system and coat.
Minty Fresh Pawsicles Recipe
- ½ Cup Plain Yoghurt
- ½ Cup Fresh Mint Leaves (finely chopped)
- ½ Cup Coconut Oil
- ½ Cup of Water
- ½ Cup of Fresh Parsley (finely chopped)
Combine oil and water and microwave until the coconut oil has melted. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until herbs are fine and ingredients are well combined. Pour into molds, freeze, and serve once frozen!
Parsley contains chlorophyll which helps neutralise bad breath as it is a natural deodoriser and can help with digestion. Mint gives you that signature fresh breath while helping fight the bacteria that cause bad breath! Coconut oil has a plethora of great benefits for your pup!
Watermelon Wave Pawsicles
- 2 Cups Seedless Watermelon
- ½ Cup Coconut Water
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Lime Juice
Blend all until smooth, pour into molds and freeze!
Watermelon is practically a health-food powerhouse! Low-cal and packed with nutrients such as Vitamins A, B6, & C, and Potassium! Not to mention super hydrating!
Pawsicle Recipes For The Kitties
Cats are a bit easier as you can take your cat’s favourite wetfood, mix it with a bit of water and freeze in molds for easy pawsicles!
Bone Broth Cube
- ½ Cup Bone Broth
- 1 Sachet of preferred wet food
Mix it all together, pour in mold and freeze, serve when the popsicle frozen!
Just as bone broth has many great benefits for dogs, it’s just as great for our feline friends!
Banana Milkshake Pawsicle Recipe
- 2 Bananas Mashed
- 2 Cups Plain Yoghurt / Goats Milk
- ¼ Cup Crushed Dry Cat Food
Mix banana and milk / yoghurt, place a small amount of crushed kitty food at the bottom of the mold and pour over banana mixture, freeze, and serve once frozen.
Catnip Craze Pawsicles Recipe
- 1 Table Spoon Catnip
- 1 Cup Hot Water
Make a tea by steeping the catnip in the hot water. Once infused, pour the catnip tea into mold, freeze and serve! See how your kitties go crazy of these frozen treats!
